The theme for 7 th ASLF and 3 rd AUN-SAN Meeting at Universitas Gadjah
Mada is “ASEAN Way in the Era of Disruption: The Role of University and Student
Leaders in Preparing to Excel the Fourth Industrial Revolution”. The Fourth
Industrial Revolution will bring about considerably striking changes to how we
live our daily lives. The fusion of the digital and physical world will bring both
opportunities and challenges to the society. A new strategy is needed as we
adapt to these changes. Bound by similarities in so many aspects, Southeast
Asian countries are stronger together. Economic, political, cultural, and social
progress and development that Southeast Asian countries share would be
beneficial in strategizing the moves in this Fourth Industrial Revolution. The
ASEAN Way rules that the decision making process should be based on
compromise, consensus, and consultation to ensure a non-conflictual way of
addressing problems which may arise together with the Fourth Industrial
Revolution.

Challenges and opportunities brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution
are of course not only a problem for today, but also for the years to come. By
preparing Southeast Asia’s young generation in facing what is to come in the
years ahead, we are strengthening the region for what is ahead of us in the
future. Student leaders from each university are expected to share their ideas to
tackle the imminent problems arising with the Fourth Industrial Revolution,
especially on how to be resilient in this disruptive situation, which is never seen
ever before. These ideas will be manifested in the group projects, which is one of
the activities during the 7 th ASLF and 3 rd AUN-SAN Meeting in Universitas Gadjah
Mada. Recommendations on how to make use of the opportunities brought by
the Fourth Industrial Revolution will be collected and presented through ASLF
Vision that is also expected to come about during the conference.
